Last Photos before the big day

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

It’s Aunt Ann again. I’m trying to get everything I need together tonight before leaving the house early in the morning to head to the hospital before Eric’s surgery.

I believe Eric had a good day. He received a care package from the Frisco Rough Riders (minor league baseball) team today! The team sent him a handwritten card, a t-shirt, baseball cap, and a sports bag. It was a surprise to Eric that he received a FedEx Delivery in the hospital!

Thank you Rough Riders!

Eric also received a Super Bowl cap – he’s ready for the Big Game! Thank you Larry, Cindy, & Bruce!
Today Eric had a matted portrait of himself in his room and asked several hospital staff members and visitors to sign it for him. Eric will have a special keepsake from all who helped him at the hospital.

Some of the staff members that are special to Eric are pictured:

Up for the Challenge

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

If there is one thing I can say after the last few years I’ve spent with Eric is that he is competitive. He’s whooped me in Madden, he’s whopped me in basketball, he’s whooped me in Wii bowling, and he’s whooped me in Deal or No Deal. This year he also outranked me in Fantasy Football (why did I draft Brady Quinn??).

There is one thing Eric doesn’t lack: the need to be challenged. Doing school work for him is boring, but turn it into a timed event and he loves it. This is one of his characteristics that really make him special.

Eric heads into the hospital this coming Sunday to prepare for his surgery on the 31st. I hope that he views this as a challenge, because I know he can overcome this just like so many other things in his life.

Make sure you post more words of encouragement for Eric as he gets his “game-face” on for the ultimate challenge!

Challenge from Eric

Tuesday, January 22nd, 2008

I received this email from Eric today:

I Eric Rice, challenge Mike Doocy to put a better paragraph than Derek Castillo and hopefully he will accept the challenge and do it. To all the bloggers out there, this has really lifted my spirits. This was a great idea. Thanks! Love, Eric

Sorry about this, Mike! :]
